I am in my first year at the university and I always get high grades. I can summarize my problem by the following: I have no friends and I don’t know what the reason of that is. What does that mean and how can I solve my problem.

Dear Yahya,

Thank you for your question. First I want to assure you that your problem is not a real problem and your situation is somewhat normal. The solution for your situation is easy. All you need is self confidence, and to feel that people love you and like your company. People would not  be convinced by your personality if you were not convinced in the beginning. 

Here are some tips that help you to get closer and make people love you:

1- Don’t let your smile disappear your face especially when you enter a place.

2- Give salaam and shake people’s hands whenever you see them.

3- Be optimistic, and helpful.

4- At the university, join your classmates’ gatherings and share them their talks.

5- Participate in students’ activities.

6- Pay attention to people when they are talking and let them feel that you are interested in hearing them.

7- Keep in touch with people who you get to know by calling them, sending sms, emails,….etc.

I am sure if you do the above, you will gain a lot of friends in a short  period of time. Finally, remember that not all people need to be our friend, so be careful when you choose them.
