Dear aunt Noor,

I am really in a hard situation. Seven years ago, my father died. After he passed away, I came from my village to Sana'a in order to study. I have two brothers who are migrants in Saudi Arabia and I am the smallest. My brothers always tell me that they will support me at university and also support my wife and son. I always feel that they force me sometimes to do things that I don’t want. My mother told me to migrate to Saudi Arabia to build my future there. Now I do not know what is better for me.

To complete my education or travel to Saudi Arabia?

Abraham (Abu Khalial)

Dear Abu Khalial,

I read your problem many times trying to think carefully about what is better for your future.

Even though working outside the country may give you a better future, but it is still considered unsure. Before you decide to travel I want you to answer these questions:

1- Are you going to enter the KSA legally so you don’t be kicked out after a while?

2- Is your job there guaranteed and long term?

3- Is your wife and son going to be safe when you travel?

4- Can you handle being away from your wife and son and live single abroad?

I want you to think carefully about these points before you decide. Personally, I prefer if you stay and complete university here in Yemen. Try to handle your brothers’ imposition especially if there is no harm to no one and continue your studies by their support. While in the same time try to find a job so you don’t need your brothers too much financially. The degree you could have after finishing the university may open many doors for you. Even if you decide to migrate later, at least you could find more respected jobs and better chances than what you have today. The final decision is yours and thank you for your trust.

Good luck
