Child Mohammed Nasser Al-Nahdi was shot forty times last week in Dhamar province at the hands of gunmen and before his mother's eyes. Al-Nahdi, 14, was shot when he handed himself in to the gunmen, declaring that he is not responsible for killing Muthafar Saleh Nasser who belongs to the killers' tribe. They started shooting him as soon as he approached them and his mother's invocation availed her nothing. Source revealed that the child's corpse is still in Dhamar Hospital morgue and hinted that a tribal war might erupt any time because of the issue especially after Al-Nahdi's family declined to accept any mediation efforts. In its statement, Nahd Tribe denounced the atrocious crime and pointed out that it had been better for the 30 gunmen to hand the child over to authorities, rather than to execute him by themselves, stressing this goes against the tribal norms, Islamic Sharia principles and human and international conventions. The statement continued the crime would set the grounds for violence, extremism and revenge culture and demanded authorities to quickly arrest the perpetrators and to refer them to judiciary. Observers emphasize that this is ranked among the violence crimes made against children in Yemen as they become victims for tribal revenge killings without taking into consideration their age.
