Throughout this week, huge and long lines of citizens waiting in front of gas stations hoping to fill up their vehicle quickly were seen, as the country faces one of its strongest diesel droughts in years. I felt sorry when I was asking some of the locals waiting in line. Some said that they have been waiting for over 17 hours, and all they want is to full their car up with diesel. Is it fair for citizens to have to lose an entire day of their life only to full up their cars? Has time become so invaluable in Yemen! What surprised me more is when we contacted the Ministry of Oil and asked how long this crisis will take until it gets solved, they informed me that there is no crisis and people get diesel as easy as water and at any gas stations. As if they never go out and see the long lines on the streets. This is the problem in Yemen. People or I should say the government does not think there is a problem when there is one, which makes the problem only grow day by day. Ten days ago, the government announced that 120 thousand tons of diesel was on its way to Yemen, but until today nothing has reached the country. Denying a problem will not make it disappear but rather will only make it harder to solve. This is not a major crisis, but the government should treat it like one for the love of the people and value of their time.
