The number of candidates for governor posts has reached 107 in all Yemeni provinces, according to official sources. Former ministers, dignitaries, academics, businessmen and common people will all be running in governors' elections. Sana'a province came in the first place as for the number of candidates, as 19 people nominated themselves for the post of governor, followed by Al-Baidha with 10 applications and Taiz and Abyan with 7 applications each. The former and long-serving Youth and Sports Minister Abdul Rahman Al-Akwa' nominated himself for the capital Sana'a. In Al-Baidha, head of the General People Congress's (GPC) branch Mohammed Nasser Al-Amri is most likely to win, because of his overwhelming popularity. Ahmed Ali Muhsen and journalist Mutahar Al-Ashmouri ran as candidate for Al-Mahweet governorate. Similarly, Kahlan Abu Shwarb running as candidate in Amran province is expected to win. In Mareb, two strong candidates compete over governor's post and these two are the member of the GPC's General Committee and Cap. Naji Ali Al-Zaidi. Five people have nominated themselves as candidates for mayor's post including Brig. Abdul Ghani Al-Sayani, businessman Ali Yahya Al-Sunidar and former minister Abdul Rahman Al-Akwa'. Just two people have nominated themselves in Sa'ada which has been a scene for a constant war between the government forces and Houthi followers for the last four years including Omar Mujali and Yahya Al-Joubi.
