Yemeni university employees continue their striking demanding fair payment and implementation of the second phase of wages strategy. They also demand to be treated on equal footage with university staff and teachers. The employees have been striking for a couple of weeks and this caused frustration to students and graduates visiting the universities for getting certain documents. Abdul Latif Al-Wadhahi from Higher Studies Administration at Sana'a University pointed out that their strike will continue until concerned authorities respond to their demands, adding that the employees of the seven Yemeni universities are on strike. Al-Wadhahi further stated to the Yemen Post that they should be included in any wage increase as is the case with university teachers, hinting they should receive as well land plots or residence allowance. Nowadays, there is a wide controversy among Sana'a University teachers and employees over 45,000 Libnah of land donated by President Saleh. Employees stress that it was donated to them, while teachers say that it was meant just for teachers and employees and technicians should be excluded. For his part, head of Sana'a University Employees Syndicate Mohammed Mudhish told the Yemen Post that employees should be included within the law that involves teaching staff and emphasized that any salary increase should be granted to both teaching staff and employees according to certain proportions. Mudhish asked for equal treatment with teaching staff and to be dealt with both as belonging to the same institution which is Sana'a University. He also asked for amending universities law and adopting a job and salary system that contain employees' rights and duties. Meanwhile, Mudhish indicated that the concerned authorities promised to pay them the price increase allowance soon; hinting that they are negotiating the matter with Civil Service, Higher Education and Finance Ministries. He as well demanded activating the article No (7) that dictates forming a technical committee for all university affiliates, whether academics, technicians or employees. Finally, Mudhish demanded that the new legislations should include all university employees and they should be granted medicine allowance, residence allowance, etc.
