Yemeni Journalists Syndicate (YJS) denounced the attack that targeted fellow journalist Abdul Rahman Al-Ghabri by  an armed gang last week.

In its press release, the syndicate demanded Interior Ministry to hunt after the perpetrators and refer them to judiciary to meet their just punishment. It further expressed its growing concern over the constant attacks and violations against journalists.

Al-Ghabri told YJS in a paper sent earlier that he was attacked by an armed gang following having a ruling in his side over the ownership of a plot of land.

He added that his enemies were not happy with the ruling and instead they harshly beat and stabbed him causing him serious injuries upon which he was rushed to Al-Mutawkel Hospital.

YJS also denounced on Tuesday the attack that targeted fellow journalist Fadhl Al-Shabibi, director of Yemen News Agency (Saba) office in Abyan. It also requested Minister of Local Administration to hold Abyan deputy governor Mohammed Hussein Al-Dahbali responsible for the incident.

It demanded a written and official apology to Al-Shabibi and to give open directions to locals authorities not to stop any journalist while performing his duties.

However, the syndicate assured it will sue the perpetrators and hold them accountable in an effort to put a limit to the attacks that target journalists and press freedom.
