In my opinion, this week will be remembered for a long time for one reason. The Minister of Interior, Mutahar Rashad Al-Masri started a nationwide campaign to close down all weapon shops throughout the country. Why is this special? It is not special because it will decrease the existence of weapons from the streets, but special because previous interior ministers dreamed of doing the same, but did not have the guts and heart to do so. Over 100 shops were closed down last week, some in the wildest parts of the country, and 140 weapon dealers were sent behind bars until they agree to sell their weapons to the government and close down their shops.

What makes this extremely special is that Al-Masri has only been the minister for one month, and taking such a big step in the beginning of his era could have of damaged his image in the eyes of people if he failed to succeed.

Everyday tens of people die due to revenge killings, and this move will surely decrease the number. Maybe, this move by was not given the hype it deserved, but if it to be successful, expect it to be historical, especially at a time when people have started to believe that weapons is part of the Yemeni culture, and would be almost difficult to have people hand in their weapons.

Keep up the good work Mr. Minister, and hopefully his accomplishments will last for years and not months as some expect.
