A couple of days ago, President Saleh announced the unexpected. He announced the end of the Sa’ada civil war. Politicians, intellectuals, and locals were all surprised to hear the news and most Yemeni citizens felt relieved. However, just one day after the president’s announcement, Yahya Al-Houthi who is currently in exile and suspected to be behind the civil war, confirmed that the war is still ongoing and that President Saleh’s announcement was false. We as journalists do not take anyone’s word when it comes to politics. So, what we did was contact sources in Sa’ada and see if the war was finally over. It was no surprise to know that the war was still ongoing, and that the president gave false information to the people. Why President Saleh announced such a thing could not be realized as of now, but many analysts believe that a side peace agreement took place with the mediation of another country, and that Saleh hurried to announce the end of the war before it could be witnessed by people. According to sources in Sa’ada, the civil war is still ongoing and no signs of it ending soon are visible. In the end, some observers believe that the Sa’ada war will continue for years, not because of Houthis, but because the government is fighting itself there, and politicians are trying to weaken each other through the Sa’ada war. No one will really know the secrets behind the Salad war anytime soon unfortunately. |
