The Sana'a-based Al-Jazeerah College has signed an agreement with the Malaysian Perlis University (UniMAP) for cooperation in various academic areas.

Under the agreement which was signed in Sana'a by dean of the college Hashim Hamoud al-Maghrabi and reactor of the university Kamarudin Hussein, Yemeni academic cadres working in the Al Jazeerah College would be trained and qualified at the Malaysian university.

These cadres would initially be trained for a year in Yemen and after local training which must be implemented under direct supervision from the UniMAP, they would be sent to Malaysia for further qualification for four years.

The agreement focuses on three axes involving implementing joint training programs and researches as well as promoting cooperation in other academic engineering areas.

Implementation of the agreement will start as of next June, when 40-50 Yemeni trainees would be sent to the Perlis, Hussein said, adding this number may increase.

For his part, al-Maghrabi said the college seeks through signing this agreement to learn from Malaysian experience in industrial education to qualify graduates who can satisfy demand of the local labor market well.

The UniMAP is also expected to sign several documents with the Ministry of Technical Education and Vocational Training for more academic cooperation between the two countries.

The Malaysian Perlis University specializes in courses in Environmental Engineering and Sciences.
