The General Transpiration Authority is to sign next week with consultative French company specialized in port projects a contract to prepare designs for and studies on the Hadramout port, transport minister Khalid Ibrahim al-Wazeer said.

The port, which would be established in two phases with the first phase at a cost of $ 240 million, will be set up in the Broum area.

The French Company will conduct and review the designs and studies for eight months.

In this regard, the minister said the Ministry of Transport will announce an international tender for the construction of the port, a move which comes within major efforts the government is making to raise the capacity of Yemeni ports to boost the national economy.

The decision to sign an agreement with a French company for preparing designs for and studies on the project comes after a German company assigned by the World Bank finalized its studies on identifying the place where the project would be set up.

The project would be set up in the Broum area instead of Al-Dhaba.

The Hadramout port will cover 11.888 million square meters, Al-Wazeer said.

Under a cabinet decision, the construction of the quay would be overseen by the Yemeni Arabian Sea Ports Authority.

The harbor would be implemented in two phases. The first would cost $ 240 million.
