The Joint Parliamentarian Committee – formed from Parliament's Constitutional and Legal Affairs, and Freedoms Committee, delegated to discuss the government's demand as to amending some election law articles halted its work last week and hinted it will resume discussions after Eid Al-Adhah vacation.

This move came after the coalition of Joint Meeting Parties recently intensified their rejection of any measures by the ruling party – General People's Congress – and aiming to make some amendments to the elections law before reaching any satisfying agreement.

The coalition hinted it will boycott elections in case the Parliament passes any suggested amendments without prior agreement with them.

Head of Constitutional and Legal Committee at Parliament Ali Abu Huliqa told Yemen Post that the committee, from the beginning, faced with opposition from some parliamentary blocs, considering such an attitude to be a premeditated act and early stance of the electoral process.

Abu Huliqa further noted that Freedoms Committee contains all heads of parliamentarian blocs and MPs have the right to amend or add any article to any law draft submitted by the government in a way that exemplifies democratic process.

He further assured the committee is going to discuss the amendments following Eid Al-Adha's vacation.
