European countries continue their financial support to Yemen; however, Germany comes in the first place as to the amount of support and grants provided by the Federal Government of Germany mounting to 107 million Euros over the year 2007 and 2008.

Last week, Yemen and Germany signed four agreements for cooperation wherein Germany pledged to give 107 billion in support of development programs in Yemen including a grant to support the technical and vocational education.

Further, five billion will be allocated for development projects implemented by the Social Fund for Development and 14 billion euros will be assigned for implementing sanitation projects.

Meanwhile, French Agency for Development launched last week its Sana'a-based office and its board of directors agreed last November to grant Yemen 26 billion euros in easy loans for financing electricity projects.

The agency also signed last week an agreement to finance feasibility studies for projects to be implemented in Yemen during the few years to come.

Likewise, the Dutch Republic represented in its Embassy in Sana'a granted in Yemen over 22 million euros in support of development projects relating to health, water and education with special interest in environment.

Yemeni government undertakes the implementation of these financed projects in the light of the policies and conditions set by the supporting parties; however, corruption marks the implementation of such projects.
