According to the Ministry of Interior, 461 Yemenis died or were injured  in the five days of Eid (December 15-20), due to traffic accidents.  The Ministry however stressed that the number of dead was only 48.  A large number of those injured are still in serious health condition.

Amir Al-Showkani, a native of Sana'a who was traveling to Hodieda with his family was a victim of reckless driving as his vehicle was hit by a speeding bus carrying 13 passengers. He orw his family were not injured, but three of the bus passengers were seriously injured and are still hospitalized. " Even if you try to avoid accidents by driving slowly and carefully, you will eventually see someone who is careless, therefore resulting in ruining other people's lives, either by death or injury.

The total number of accidents in the five day Eid period totaled 203 accidents, most occurring on the Sana’a-Taiz road.

The government continued this year its media campaign warning citizens of reckless driving, however, the number of death seems to increase every year. Hundreds of thousands of booklets and pamphlets were distributed in most governorates around the country advising drivers on how to avoid traffic accidents.
