Thousands of people from Taiz, Lahj, Aden, Abyan, Dhalea, and Ibb provinces gathered on Tuesday on a demonstration that was organized by the Joint Meeting Parties JMP in Taiz province.
Protesters in the rally chanted slogans against the ruling party General People’s Congress GPC which according to them, wants to hold unilaterally parliamentary elections in 2010 which will be illegal and unconstitutional.
In a statement that was issued at the end of the rally, the JMP requested the GPC to go back to the national dialogue in order to resolve problems in the country without investing political crises in its interest.
Last week, President Saleh ordered to form a new commission for elections from judges, '' the supreme commission for elections and referendum should be formed this time from judges'', he said, approving a proposal previously submitted by the opposition. However, opposition parties denied President Saleh's claims, saying they never called to form a new commission, and denouncing what is described as misguided official discourse.
In July, the parties signed the minutes of the February 2009 Agreement on delaying the parliamentary elections to 2011 that included terms for holding comprehensive national dialogue.
A number of dialogues between the ruling party and the opposition have reached no progress since the beginning of 2007. Giving no consideration to the fragile democracy, each party is trying to invest the crises of the country in its benefit.
