After the Yemeni army managed to dislodge the militants from their strongholds in the southern province of Abyan, tribal committee started mediation efforts intended to convince the militants to withdraw peacefully from Shabwa.The tribal chiefs aim to spare Azan, a town in Shabwa and al-Qaeda stronghold, the war and bloodshed that is absolutely going to take place as the government forces are resolved to recapture all the seized towns by the Jihadists and eliminate them.Local sources told the al-Masdar online newspaper that the tribal committee, which is comprised of social dignitaries and chiefs from Shabwa, has not reached an agreement with the militants yet.The sources said that al-Qaeda-linked militants still in control of Azan and that they are still manning checkpoints at its entrances.Meanwhile, the government sources confirmed that advanced operations bases have been established in Shabwa with the aim of delivering painful strikes against the militants and driving them out from it.On Friday, air force planes launched airstrikes targeting the militants hideouts and whereabouts in Azan, however, Ansar al-Sharai said the airstrikes resulted in no causalities.Yesterday, the army troops assisted by armed tribesmen managed to dislodge al-Qaeda elements from their last stronghold of Shuqra, a port town in Abyan, putting an end to the rein of terrorism in the southern province which has witnessed violent clashes over the recent 13 months. Tens of thousands were displaced due to the conflict.
