Earlier this week, the political activist in the so called the southern mobility, Mona Al-Hashemi, who had been held in Aden prison in charge of leading protest in the governorate of Aden, was released, sources close to the family of Al-Hashmi told the Yemen Post.
“I never expected the arrest, and I do not know what lies behind it," Al-Hashemi said, adding that there was nothing probably lied behind the arrest other than the fact that security forces started making arbitrary arrest these days.
Meanwhile opposition media reported that, Al-Hashemi was arrested on Tuesday, hours after a protest took place in Aden governorate demanded self-rule of the south of Yemen.
The same sources said that Zahra Saleh, who is also a prominent activist in the southern mobility and had been held in the same charge as Al-Hashmi remains in prison.
Al-Hashemi and Saleh were working to form a civic active group to demand the self-rule of the south, an official in the local council in Aden governorate who spoke in anonymity said, adding that the two activists were arrested after their civic active group was made a public.
