The Supreme Security Committee in charge of overseeing the implementation of the ceasefire in northern Yemen gave on Monday the Houthi rebels a 12-day deadline to implement the remainder terms of the ceasefire that started few weeks ago ending a six-year war between the army and the insurgents in Saada.
The announcement comes as the committees overseeing the implementation of the ceasefire are continuing their job despite violations by the rebels.
Head of the ceasefire committee on areas on the border with Saudi Arabia, Muhammad Al-Haweri, quoted by the mouthpiece of the ruling party Al-Mithaq Newspaper said the committee had given the Houthi group a new deadline to further implement the ceasefire. The deadline expires March 10, he added.
The committee has supervised the reopening of roads and eliminating landmines as well as implementing the first term of the ceasefire in many areas, but the rebel are not cooperative enough on the ceasefire, he said.
Despite this, the first term of the ceasefire has been completely achieved and the second phase which requires the rebels give weapons and equipment and captives taken during the battles is about to start now, he said.
