Thousands of Yemeni people, students and state employees gathered on Saturday at the Al-Thawra Stadium for the carnival called and organized by the General People's Congress, the ruling party, the National Coalition Parties and civil society organizations within the celebrities on the 20th anniversary of unification.
Buses transported the people to the carnival after the Civil Service Ministry circulated a note to governmental facilities urging them to send employees to take part in the event.
Also mosque rectors were ordered to urge the people to head to the carnival held amid economic, security and political deterioration as well as separation bids in the south.
The Joint Meeting Parties, an opposition coalition, have denounced forcing state employees to head to the carnival, saying paralyzing public institutions was not a good idea.
The circular by the Civil Service Ministry and threats by the educational and Secretariat Capital offices in Sana'a to the students and teachers that they ought to go to it were unconstitutional and exposed the failure of the government management.
The spokesman for the parties, Muhammad Al-Nuaimi, said that the ruling party is using the public resources and institutions for its own interests. When regime resorts to such measures, this means that the people have become aware of its failure and ineffective policies, Al-Nuaimi said.
If the people already support the government and the ruling party, they would go out without ordering, forcing or threatening them to do so, he said, urging the people not to respond to the pressure of the government.
The Yemeni people should exercise their democratic rights without pressure or threats, he added.
