At least five people were injured and tens were arrested when police dispersed on Wednesday a rally in the southern province of Lahj.
Police used live ammunitions to break up the rally called by the Joint Meeting Parties, an opposition coalition in Yemen, according to independent sources.
Among the injured were officials in the parties.
The JMP has condemned the use of excessive power to oppress protestors in the country amid economic, security and political deterioration.
The parties said they had informed the authorities about the place and time for holding their peaceful rally, but the authorities neglected the letters.
The people gathered to protest the regime's policies of povertizing and oppression but many policemen were dispatched to the site for them, they said.
Meanwhile, the JMP branch in Lahj has urged the government to adopt effective policies for employment and human rights based on equality and respecting freedom.
