The district of Harfy Sufyan in Yemen's northern Amran province saw on Saturday fierce clashes between Houthis and armed tribesmen as well as ambushes in which some were killed and others went missing.
The fate of Secretary General of the Local Council Muhsen Muqel and his escorts is still unclear after reports surfaced they were ambushed and killed by Houthis.
Other reports noted that the official and others, about 20, were arrested by the Houthi Group that has been fighting the army in the far north since 2004.
The two sides reached in February this year a ceasefire deal that goes on despite breaches by the group and recent clashes threatening it.
A source at the Houthi information bureau has denied their involvement in ambushing, arresting or fighting the official and other tribesmen.
The source accused tribal elders in the district of attacking Houthis triggering clashes and moreover confirmed the death of two Houthis.
Meanwhile, mediations are underway to contain the tense situation that comes amid the ceasefire.
On Saturday, reports also surfaced that several ambushes were carried out by Houthis targeting tribesmen and officials in which the son of Director of the district was killed.
Others were also killed and injured in the ambushes that took place in Harf Sufyan, Maqtola and Barat.
The bodies of those killed were badly damaged that they could not be identified, according to local sources.
The tension started after a Houthi leader was killed.
In recent weeks, confrontations between Houthi followers and armed tribesmen, that the Houthi said were supported by the government, were reported in Saada and Amran provinces.
