Al-Qaeda in the Arabian Peninsula AQAP has planned to kill more army and local government officials in Marib Province, security sources said on Sunday.
The sources revealed the names of the new officials to be targeted in the province in northeast Yemen within a terrorist activity that started last month.
AQAP, announced early last year when Yemeni and Saudi wings merged, has killed over the last three years 37 army and local officials of a target list of 40 officials, the sources said, expecting Qaeda operatives might plan to infiltrate into Saudi Arabia after devastating blows in Yemen.
Different ways were used to carry out attacks against the officials including ambushes, using RPGs and explosive belts in areas bordering Shabwa province and Saudi Arabia.
Meanwhile, Marib Governor Naji Al-Zayedi said that the security forces had controlled all areas where terrorists were hiding and operating.
The recent clashes with them were successful and terrorists suffered big losses, he said, adding the situation is now stable in the province.
