Committee Holds Houthi Group Accountable as Ceasefire Breaches Continue in North

The Supreme Security Committee said on Wednesday the Houthi Group is continuing ceasefire breaches attacking security checkpoints and forcing citizens to leave their homes in northern Yemen, holding the group accountable for all violations.

A source at the committee was quoted by Saba as saying that the commissions overseeing the implementation of the ceasefire terms had reported violations by Houthis in Saada and Harf Sufyan district, Amran.

Irresponsible acts of the group exposed its insistence on hampering the peace efforts and abandoning the ceasefire reached in February this year and the Doha agreement between the government and the group in 2007, the source said.

Furthermore, the source affirmed the government concerns with establishing peace and boosting security in the region and that its choice is boosting development and rebuilding the war-ravaged areas.

On the Houthi side, a spokesman for the group said the confrontations in Harf Sufyan had stopped, claiming military forces supported pro-government tribes against them.

Calm is prevailing in the area after two weeks of fighting in which dozens were killed from both sides, Muhammad Abdul Salam said. Denying there were direct confrontations with army posts, he said the group took over Al-Zala'a post where the clashes with pro-government Bin Aziz tribe happened.

The reports that we are besieging army posts were baseless because we have no problems with army posts and we were not attacked by troops from any post, he said.

Also, the reports that we took soldiers as hostage were untrue and if this happened the soldiers would be our guests, he added, as he urged the media to be a peace tool and avoid being a tool in the hands of war dealers. Abdul Salam declined commenting and giving a specific number of casualties, saying there were just victims from both sides.

The announcements followed fierce confrontations in Harf Sufyan between Houthi followers and pro-government tribes.

On Monday, Prime Minister said military personnel and equipment were seized by Houthis coinciding with reports that hundreds of soldiers were arrested and a seventh war has already started.
