70 per cent of salt at the Yemeni markets is non-iodized, a study by the UNICEF Nutrition Program has said.
The study prepared by the program coordinator Mohan Rebali also said there is no supervision on the national factories for salt production and there is poor technical performance during producing and refining iodine.
Furthermore, producers distribute this vital material from mines in different degrees and for unfixed prices, the study said.
The study was discussed on Monday during a meeting at the Ministry of Public Health and Population.
Minister Abdul Karim Rasa'a said non-iodized salt affects the minds of children and their education as he urged to supply iodized salt at the Yemeni markets by 90 per cent.
