The Coastguard seized on Friday a Maltese-flagged ship after it threw plastic bags believed to have contained a prohibited material in Yemen's territorial waters.
The ship, called Sichem Fenol, was seized after it left Aden Port. Head of the Coastguard Ali Ahmed Rasa'a said the ship had thrown 25 plastic bags, each of which contained 20 liters of a liquid believed to be prohibited 30 nautical miles off Aden Port.
The Coastguard alerted the Maritime Affairs Authority about the matter and the authority ordered to hold the ship and prevent its captain from operating within Yemeni ports or in the country's waters, he made clear.
The authorities are currently examining the material as a prelude to turn over the issue to the prosecution, he said.
