At least two citizens were injured and rushed to hospital after clashes between the forces and armed gangs in Al-Sa'ada and Al-Salam quarters in Yemen's business capital of Aden erupted late on Friday night.
Eyewitnesses were quoted by the Alsahwa website as saying one of the victims was injured in the confrontations in Al-Sa'ada quarter and the second in those in Al-Salam quarter located few meters from the embassies quarter in Khour Maksar town.
The clashes were the fiercest in the last two days in the notorious area for clashes with the forces, where a weeks-long fighting was reported last year.
This year's fighting started two days ago when the forces tried to break up a rally, but the protestors resisted the forces devotedly.
According to independent sources the security forces wanted to eliminate random constructions at Al-Sa'ada quarter, but the people prevented them.
Eyewitnesses were also quoted as saying that they heard a heavy exchange of gunfire that lasted for almost two hours and also heard big expositions; and the area was totally cordoned off.
Gunmen were seen climbing over buildings to take positions and later were seen firing on a military post near the education faculty in the area.
On Friday locals started to set up sand defense positions in preparation for any possible confrontation with the security on alert to break up rallies by the people, who continue their protest against derailing the trial of a security suspect in killing a person from the quarter last year.
Ahmed Al-Darwish died in prison in the second day of his detention in mid-2010.
In the last two days, people closed the coastal road in Khour Maksar and three policemen and several citizens were injured when the forces intervened to reopen the road.
The developments come after Attorney General refused to turn over the case of Al-Darwish to the court, amid allegations the victim died of torture.
In Al-Habilain, Lahj, another southern notorious place for confrontations, fierce clashes erupted early on Friday between the forces and armed separatist militants.
Informed sources said separatist militants attacked a military post in Al-Jadan district trying to take over it, but the attack was repelled.
In recent years, reports have started to emerge nearly daily on confrontations in some parts of Lahj as the separatist movement is stepping up protest against what it calls injustice and for rights demands.
