Tens of thousands of people are gathering in Yemen’s capital Sana’a in peaceful rallies organized by the opposition protesting the povertization policy and urging the ouster of the regime.
The rallies are also calling for political changes and condemning unilateral moves by the General People’s Congress, the ruling poverty, including the being-studied constitutional reforms that allow Saleh to rule for a lifetime.
The rallies were held in separate places: at the house of the late Parliament Speaker Abdullah Bin Hussein al Ahmer, at Sana’a University, Ring Road and Noqum.
Some of the rallies are carrying placards reading: no to povertization policy, elections are illegal and unconstitutional, and the time has come for change.
Others are carrying rosy colored papers on which some slogans were written and protestors are wearing red bondages around their heads and chanting slogans urging the Joint Meeting Parties, the opposition, to move for change.
The opposition rallies are also condemning the coup against the republic and unity, presidential term extension and succession, corruption and the rule of the one family.
Coinciding with the opposition rallies, there are also gatherings and marches by the ruling party chanting support for President Saleh and carrying placards, some of which reading: no to agents, no to instability and no to destabilization, and others urging to stand by the government to fight corruption.
There are also cars roaming the streets singing national anthems and songs.
Anti-riot police with batons and police cars were deployed early today to the streets as the opposition is vowing to step up protest against the corrupt regime.
Rallies are continuing until this moment.
