Massive demonstrations were held in several Yemeni cities on Wednesday to condemn the attempts to revive the GCC-brokered power-sharing deals, amid reports that the international community is seeking to fill the constitutional vacuum in Yemen through resurrecting the dead initiative.
President Saleh had backed out of signing the deal three times at the last minute triggering its suspension by the GCC countries and the opposition to describe it as dead.
Hundreds of thousands took to the streets in the cities of Taiz, Dhale, Baidha'a and Hadramout and chanted slogans such as 'we will not retreat or be scared,'….'no revenge and no hatred', 'will continue our protest until the goals of our peaceful revolution were met'.
They called for an immediate transitional council as they reiterated their refusal to any attempts or initiatives to back the Saleh regime; condemned the military action against the people in some cities including Taiz; and called for opening trials for the regime officials.
Furthermore, they called on the international community to take decisive action that would help them gain the trust of the Yemeni people who are seeking the ouster of the regime instead of revealing or reviving unhelpful initiatives.
Meantime, the opposition have asked the youth-led protesters in the squares of change and freedom to give them several days to arrange for taking the country out of the current situation.
"We need more days because Yemen will see different and better decisions by sisters and friends of the country. The protesters should help us to do what we can do to help our nation pass through this turning point successfully before they start any escalation," said Muhammad Qahtan, the JMP spokesman.
"If we fail to do something, the people can decide and go ahead as they want," he added.
