UN Secretary General Ban Ki Moon met with 2011 Nobel Peace Prize winner, Tawakkul Karman this Thursday to discuss the situation in Yemen and hear her opinion regarding the matter of the draft resolution demanding Saleh's immediate departure from power.
Karman expressed her disagreement towards the immunity clause, arguing that protecting a criminal such as president Saleh would in essence equate to supporting dictatorship around the World, giving war criminals of war the UN' seal of approval.
Ban Ki Moon assured Karman that he was doing everything in his power to promote the Yemeni cause, stressing that he was well aware of the gravity of the situation since protesters continued to die every day. He also said that the UN had a clear stance in regards to "gross violations of human rights" implying that Saleh would not get immunity.
Several diplomats in New york have actually expressed their concern over the clause, worried that it could set an unhealthy precedent and allow unsavory characters to escape international laws.
