The Higher Committee tasked with preparing for the Yemen Friend group held on Monday a meeting in which it discussed final preparations for the donor conference to be held in Riyadh on May 23.

It further discussed mechanisms for the success of the conference and how to achieve the required objectives in the transition stage.

The committee reviewed working papers that will be offered to the conference and the government plans that includes economic , political and security fields, and phased agendas of development for 2012 -2013.

The committee ordered technical teams to accurately review final papers on the basis of scientific approaches.

Prime Minister Mohammad Salem Basindwa who chaired the meeting highly appreciated efforts by the neighboring GCC states in supporting Yemen and get it out of its current troubles.

Minister of Planning and International Cooperation Mohammad Al-Saadi had said Yemen's economy needs about billions of dollars to recover and become stable, pining hopes into the donor conference to be held on Riyadh in the up-coming March.

Western diplomats told Reuters last week that their countries were unlikely to make any financial commitments until a formal donor conference, known as the Consultative Group Meeting, to be held in early July.

He made it clear that Yemen will ask donors for about $10 billion in urgent aid at a "Friends of Yemen" meeting

Yemeni economists anticipated that the donor conference would enable the government overcome economic, political and social challenges.

Yemen faces a number of critical development challenges, including high unemployment, diminishing oil reserves and depletion of water resource, the lately anti-regime demonstrations worsened the situations.
