The United Nations Security Council has approved sending a UN mission that will last form weeks to Yemen to follow up the implementation of the UN Security Council Resolution 2014 on Yemen, diplomatic sources have said.
The sources affirmed that the UN Envoy to Yemen Jamal Beomar along with an accompanying delegation will arrive in Sana'a within the few upcoming days.
The sources affirmed that the Un delegation will follow up the commitment to the GCC-mediated power transfer deal, help the Yemeni authorities in preparation for the national dialogue and military reorganization.
The sources told an Emirati newspaper, Al-Khaleej, that the UN mission will stay in Yemen for weeks and work with varying states to move forward the Yemeni political forces.
It further said that the mission will operate to help President Abdu Rabo Mansour Hadi and the interim government to overcome any impediments to the national dialogue.
Benomar visited Yemen several times and he managed to persuade relatives of the former president Ali Abdullah Saleh to hand over their military positions after prolonged bargaining.
He held meetings with Yemen's various political sides and could resolve several complicated issues during his frequent visits to the state.
He informed the Yemeni political sided that sanctions would be imposed against any sides that might threaten Yemen's security, stability and power transfer.
Benomar had cited that Yemen faces remarkable challenges pointing out to the southern case, consequences of Saada's six wars and the tragedies of the displaced persons.
