A 21-year old man was killed after he lifted a bag packed with explosives in Yemen's capital Sanaa late on Saturday, the defense ministry reported.
The bag exploded immediately when it was lifted killing the young man and injuring several civilians, according to local sources.
The incident occurred on the highway in Hizyaz district south of Sanaa and the young was identified as Sadiq Abdullah Al-Hubeishi from Ibb province, the ministry said.
"The victim's body pulverized into small pieces scattered in the site in a terrible way," it added.
An investigation has been launched into the incident to identify those involved, it continued.
The incident came amid deadly suicide bombings by Al-Qaeda in several Yemeni cities which appear to be retaliation after the severe blows it received in the south in the past two months.
Al-Qaeda has vowed to take the battle to the capital Sanaa; and so far militants have carried out several deadly attacks killing and injuring hundreds of soldiers and cadets.
Meanwhile, observers have warned Al-Qaeda may think to target crowded and populated places including markets if recent deadly bombings in Sanaa and other cities go uninvestigated.
