The Yemeni government has revealed that it will issue special identity cards for expatriates, Minister of Expatriates Mujahid Al-Quhali affirmed, pointing out that the card will facilitate the accounting of Yemeni expatriates and contacts with them.
In a meeting with al-Quhali, Prime Minister Mohammad Salem Basindwa appreciated efforts exerted by the ministry to follow up the cases of expatriates and strengthen connections to their home.
In the meeting held on Wednesday, Basindwa called for taking advantages of other countries regarding expatriates, stressing that expatriates must vividly take part in development of their states.
They further reviewed preparations to hold the first forum of Yemeni communities around the words and achieved steps in establishing a bank for expatriates.
For its part, Al-Quhali affirmed that his ministry seeks to create active tools to contact with the Yemeni expatriates and increase their participation in development, stressing the importance of protecting them of all repression and crackdown.
About five million Yemenis work in different countries, but they face many obstacles particularly in the Gulf states.
Yemeni expatiates in Saudi Arabia complained that Saudis impose stricter measures on them.
Thousands of Yemenis endanger their lives and infiltrate into Saudi Arabia and other GCC states monthly due the to high levels of unemployment and poverty and low living standards in Yemen.
Saudi authorities deport thousands of Yemenis who illegally infiltrate to Saudi lands. Last week, the Saudi authorities deported about 1200 Yemenis.
Saudi Arabia and other Gulf countries hosted about 2 million Yemenis before the first Gulf War in 1990.
