Yemen's security authorities in the port city of Aden have arrested three terrorist cells that were planning to target vital government facilities including Aden International Airport, Aden Port and other foreign interests, local sources affirmed.
The sources said that the cells included 35 militants, pointing out that foreign fighters were arrested among the cells that planned to assassinate military commanders. Meanwhile, governor of Abyan Jamal al-Aqel stated on Saturday that about 28 Al-Qaeda militants were arrested in Abyan during the two past months, pointing out that senior Al-Qaeda leaders were among the arrested.
In remarks to the military-run 26 September newspaper, he said that the security authorities in Abyan is still hunting militants who are hiding in remote and rigged areas.
Clashes renewed on Saturday between al-Qaeda militants and the Popular Resistance Committees, leaving three al-Qaeda militants killed and two other local fighters wounded, local sources reaffirmed.
Local sources said that a brother of a senior al-Qaeda leder, Nadir Al-Shadadi was among the killed persons.
After the Yemeni government announced its victory against Al-Qaeda in Jaar, Zinjibar and Shaqrah in early June, al-Qaida carried out a suicide bombings in various governorates and killed the commander of Yemen's southern military region, Salem Qatan.
Al-Qaeda restored to use other tactics as it assassinated a number of Yemeni military commanders and officers, and carried out suicide bombings against military and security compounds in the capital Sana'a and other cities.
