A Yemeni Telecommunication company, Yemen Mobile, has blockd Yemen Post, an independent news website, from its internet modem subscribers without giving any justifications.
Editor-in-Chief of Yemen Post, Hakim Almasmari, affirmed that the company gave no clarifications about the blockade, emphasizing that the company refused to cooperate to recover the service.
All internet users with Barq and Saree internet modems run by Yemen Mobile were among the blocked.
Yemen journalists have repeatedly demanded the Yemeni authorities to put and end to infringements practiced against journalists, newspapers and news websites, but violations are ongoing despite the change of the political system.
Freedom Foundation for media freedom, rights and development (FF) has condemned violations committed against journalists and media practitioners, cautioning against repressive polices adopted against media outlets.
"These policies will have dire consequences against journalists and media practitioners, despite of political change witnessed in Yemen." FF added in a statement issued last week.
FF issued its statements after soldiers arrested two cameramen of the Arab Agency for Media (AAM) while they were covering the attack against the US Embassy in Sana'a last week.
It said that the office of AAM in Sana'a was attacked several times due to its coverage to the attack, calling, in the meantime, for imposing the rule of law, guaranteeing expression freedom and holding the perpetrators accountable under local and international conventions.
