Insecurity and chaos acts have returned to the southern governorate of Taiz as some groups started blocking main roads and encircling government institutions.
Dozens of armed men affiliated to deputy governor of Taiz Mohammad al-Shawafi are encircling the government compound of Taiz, rejecting recent decisions that were issued by the governor Shawqi Ahmed Hail, local sources affirmed.
The sources said that al-Shawafi, who is among loyal officials to the former president Ali Abdullah Saleh, ordered his armed men to block Taiz-Aden road and provoke chaos in protest at new appointments by the governor.
Al-Shawafi is accused by of killing protesters who took into streets in 2011 and demanded the ouster of Saleh and his regime.
Demonstrators took to streets last week in Taiz, demanding to sack corrupt officials and prosecute others who killed protesters during the 2011 uprising that forced the Saleh to step down.
Taiz has been a source of pro-democracy uprising that ended Saleh's 33-year rule. Security forces often responded with deadly force.
In May 2011, security forces attacked the central protest camp in Taiz city, shooting demonstrators and setting their tents on fire. More than 50 protesters were killed.
Meanwhile, the Yemeni capital, Sana'a, and other major cities witness a state of insecurity as high-ranking security, military and political officials were targeted during the past few months.
On Monday, a senior officer of the Political Security was assassinated by an unknown man in the heart of the capital Sana'a.
