The supreme national anti-corruption commission (SNACC) in Yemen approved on Tuesday to cancel all procedures to establish the Yemeni power generation company including the negotiations with the Yemen Company For Industrial Investment LTD and its partners, the official agency Saba reported.
The move was based on the ground the would-be company is not serious to settle its liabilities according to its foundation contract, the agency said.
The commission also approved to commit the Cooperative and Agricultural Credit Bank to return the government's share in the would-be company's capital as a payable cheque to the account of the Public Electricity Corporation in the Central Bank of Yemen, it added.
Furthermore, the commission decided to speak to Prime Minister, Muhammad Basindwa, to urge him reconsider the contracts to purchase electricity, in a move that aims to straighten up the situation in line with the national law and technical considerations, Saba said.
These decisions come as Yemen continues to suffer from power outages due to persistent attacks on power stations and supply lines as well as the old power stations that can't operate well since their life expectancies have expired.
Energy Minister, Saleh Sumai, has recently said Yemen plans to build new power plants and modernize and modernize some old ones, especially those whose generators and other parts have been unable to operate in a proper way.
