Mayor of Yemen's capital, Abdulqadir Hilal, survived an assassination attempt late on Wednesday while he was inspecting arrangements for Eid Al-Adha, Saba reported quoting a statement by a security official.
The plot took place in the Bab Al-Yemen area after mid-night and the two who were behind the plot were arrested after a short hunt and handed to the police department, the source said.
"The arrested were security soldiers, who worked for the security authorities in the capital, but the motives for the plot have not been known," the source continued.
"They were on a motorbike; one of them fired at the mayor and the second drove the motorbike away," the source said, adding that the bodyguards of the mayor arrested them after a short hunt.
There were no reports of casualties.
The plot comes in a series of successful and failed assassinations targeting senior Yemeni officials in the capital and other main cities, mainly army and security chiefs and politicians.
