The Yemeni authorities have released six Yemenis who were arrested in late October while landing in the country coming from Iraq, National Organization for Defending Rights and Freedoms (HOOD) said in a statement on Monday.
The six were released by the Iraqi authorities and deported to their country in late October, and on their arrival, the Yemeni intelligence system held them at Sanaa International Airport.
"Their release took place on Monday after the authorities failed to charge them," the statement said, adding that the release was on guarantees that their families will bring them to the authorities upon demand.
During their release, the authorities barred journalists from picturing the Yemeni citizens, an activist was quoted by Almasdar Online as saying.
In a previous statement, HOOD said some 16 Yemeni citizens are still detained in Iraq including two women and a young man sentenced to death.
Separately, the authorities laid to final rest the officer from the central security organization who died from his wounds after escaping an assassination attempt in the capital Sanaa earlier this month.
Major. Muhammad Hussein Al-Feel was attacked by two unidentified people who were onboard a motorbike amid a series of successful and failed assassination plots targeting senior army and security commanders as well as key politicians in the country.
Scores of officers have been killed so far this year as most of the main cities including the capital Sanaa continue to experience alarming security disorder, mainly blamed on political unrest and persistent division of the armed forces.
