More American Troops in Yemen

Yemeni political activist Mohammed Fakhr accused the United States of America of suing Yemen as a new hub for its military, regardless of the instability the presence of American troops on Yemen' soil would bring the nation and to an extent the region.Speaking to al-Alam on Saturday, Fakhr argued Washington was turning Yemen into another Pakistan, using its war against terror as an excuse to set up its military bases and gain ground control over the Arabian Peninsula.Marcy Kreiter, a security and political analyst told the Yemen Post on Sunday she believed the White House was strategically positioning its troops in Yemen in a bid to counteract Iran's advances in the Arabian Peninsula and the Asian block -- Pakistan and Afghanistan -- Following September 2012 storming of the U.S embassy in Sana'a over the publication online of an anti-Islam American made movie, U.S Ambassador Gerald Feierstein in agreement with President Abdo Rabbo Mansour Hadi announced the arrival of a platoon of U.S Marines - 50 soldiers - to reinforce the embassy security perimeter, assuring the public the move was only temporary.Within months, reports that the White House had arranged for its troops to set up base in al-Anad - Air Force military base in southern Yemen - came through. Sana'a Sheraton Hotel - which lies only a short distance away from the American embassy in the capital - was turned into U.S controlled military base with plans for a subterranean tunnel to be built, linking the embassy to the hotel where diplomats will be housed. With more reports of American military intrusion in Yemen then ever before, activists are warning of a popular backlash as witnessed in Pakistan and Bahrain.
