Yemen Intelligence Hunts Qaeda Car Bombs, Site

Yemeni intelligence authorities have launched a massive hunt for a number of explosives-laden cars that were prepared by Al-Qaeda militants to attack key installations in key cities, Alahale reported quoting a statement by official sources on Sunday.
“The intelligence authorities have got information about the car bombs and are not searching for them in Sanaa and other main cities,” the sources were quoted as saying.
The car bombs come a week ahead of an extraordinary meeting of the United Nations Security Council which will be held in the capital Sanaa on January 28.
In the meantime, the Yemeni government is continuing a campaign to control the situation before the meeting with large forces and patrols dispatched to all streets.
After mass protests in late 2011,the UN issued resolutions to back the GCC-brokered power-transfer deal in Yemen and has since held several meetings on the transition.
Yemen has been hunting Al-Qaeda operatives killing many and targeting their hideouts with direct support from the US whose drones have killed key AQAP leaders since last year.
Last year, the Yemeni army launched a US-backed offensive and retook key towns in the southern Abyan and Shabwa provinces which were seized by militants after the popular uprising erupted against the former regime.
In response, Al-Qaeda has carried out many deadly attacks targeting military and security commanders, personnel, patrols and installations.
