Military officials have confirmed that President Abdo Rabbo Mansour Hadi is looking to launch an imminent attack against tribesmen in Marib responsible for acts of sabotage against the nation's electric and oil infrastructures in a bid to restore order and confidence in the state's ability to run the affairs of the state.
Ever since protesters took the streets in 2011 to demand political and social reforms, tribesmen have targeted Marib power lines and oil pipeline, using the power vacuum to disrupt civilian life for financial and political gains.
Despite a series of tribal negotiations and the dispatch of military and police units in the area to support the local authorities, Marib has been plagued by regular sabotage attacks, ever increasingly gaining in intensity and numbers.
An official at the presidential palace confirmed on Wednesday that following a series of high-power meetings and in accordance with military and security experts, military units are preparing to intervene in the eastern province of Marib. The official added that acts of sabotage over the past couple of weeks had proven impossible to ignore.
Residents in the capital Sana'a have had to endure long spells of darkness over the past couple of weeks as power lines were attacked within hours of their repair, leaving people no respite what so ever. While Yemenis are accustomed to blackouts, never before did the capital face so many and lengthy power outages.
