Yemeni factions including the Houthi militant group are close to reach a deal to end the current deadlock, well-informed sources said on Tuesday.
The UN envoy to Yemen Jamal Benomar has been successfully bridging the gap between all and the deal is expected to culminate the UN efforts very soon, the sources said.
The sources told the Yemen Post Benomar has been meeting with representatives from all groups and that a presidential council is likely to be formed soon to fill in the constitutional vacuum.
The council will be chaired by president Abdu Rabbu Mansour Hadi, they said, adding that the government which resigned this past week will be the caretaker government until a national salvation government is formed.
Hadi and the government resigned last week after the Houthi coup. According to sources, Benomar has revealed Hadi and prime minister Khalid Bahah are under house arrest.
Houthi militias have been besieging them since they seized the presidential compound.
