Fierce battles broke out Sunday between local tribes in Marib and Houthi militants amid ongoing unrest in Yemen.
Local sources said the tribes repelled an attack and clashed with Houthi militants this morning killing militants and destroying their vehicles.
They did not give statistics about casualties.
The sources also said some provincial military brigades have declared their loyalty to the legitimate president Abdu Rabbu Mansour Hadi.
These brigades are backing the local tribes against Houthis and dissident forces loyal to ex-president Saleh, they added.
Houthi militants have been seeking to seize the oil-rich Marib for more than a year.
They have been fighting tribes in Baidha and Jawf cities which are adjacent to Marib but still unable to advance toward it.
The Marib tribes have mobilized around 30.000 fighters and hundreds of vehicles to face the militants.
Marib hosts some of country's largest oil projects, the only wells which produce gas and export it to the Balhaf LNG Plant and the main power stations.
The battles in Marib coincided with clashes between local popular resistance committees and Houthis in other Yemeni cities.
In the past two days, resistance against Houthis erupted in Ibb and Taiz cities where many Houthis were killed and arrested.
Meanwhile, the popular resistance committees are continuing the fight against Houthis in Aden and Shabwa in the south.
