Russia called for a closed-door meeting by the UN Security Council to discuss the crisis in Yemen, agencies reported on Tuesday.
The meeting will be held on Wednesday, they said, without giving more details.
Separately, president Abd Rabbuh Mansour Hadi met with the US ambassador to Yemen Mathew Tueller in the Saudi capital Riyadh, Saba agency reported.
Hadi said the government is exerting major efforts to talk with all factions in order to put an end to the crisis which has left the people to face a severe humanitarian situation, it said.
From his side, Tueller assured that his country backs the legitimacy of the government and solving the crisis with political solutions and in line with the UN resolutions, it added.
The developments coincided with a statement by the government that UN-sponsored talks will be held by Yemeni factions in Geneva in two weeks from now.
Moreover, reports said today the UN Secretary General Ban Ki-moon is poised to announce a fresh humanitarian ceasefire in Yemen.
