The pro-government forces and popular resistance have regained the district of Khour Maksar in Yemen's southern port city of Aden from the Houthi militants, informed sources said on Tuesday.
They are now besieging the Houthi militants and forces loyal to the former president in the districts of Crater and Mualla as a prelude to drive all militants out of Aden, the sources said.
In recent days, the pro-government forces were provided with heavy weapons by the Saudi-led coalition that have enabled them to make progress against the Houthis, they added.
In Taiz which is adjacent to Aden, the pro-government forces advanced on key war fronts regaining positions and forcing the Houthi militants to escape from downtown, sources from the popular resistance said.
In response, the Houthis have dispatched tanks and rocket launchers on the Sabir Mountain where they have many fans, they added.
Moreover, the pro-government forces have launched fierce battles against the Houthis in other cities including Abyan, Baidha and Marib.
Scores of Houthis have been killed in all battles in the past few days coinciding with casualties from airstrikes by the Saudi-led Arab coalition in several cities.
The violence comes as a UN-brokered ceasefire designed to allow the delivery of humanitarian aid to the people affected by the conflict has failed to take hold.
The coalition launched a military intervention against the Houthis and forces loyal to the former president in late March.
The intervention followed the ouster of the UN-backed transition government by the Houthis.
