More military reinforcements are arriving in Yemen's oil-rich province of Marib as part of the preparations to retake the capital Sanaa from the Houthi militants.
Sources within the popular resistance which has been backing the forces said fierce battles with the Houthis have been continuing for days and that the Saudi-led coalition is providing direct support during the battles. The battles will be culminated by besieging and retaking Sanaa, they said.
The coalition conducted heavy airstrikes against the militants Tuesday killing tens of them and destroying a lot of their military equipment, they said. More than a dozen of the Houthis were killed during the battles, they added.
A few days ago, Gulf media reports said ground troops and military equipment from the coalition were sent to back the Yemeni forces in Marib which borders Sanaa from the northeast.
The Houthi militants ousted the government and seized Sanaa in late 2014 sparking a civil war which has been continuing in several cities for months.
Today, the coalition struck the militants in the cities of Ibb, Baidha, Dhamar, Hodeida, Saada and Sanaa as well coinciding with ongoing battles between the pro- and anti-government forces.
