More than a dozen of pro-government fighters were killed and others injured in a misdirected airstrike by the Saudi-led coalition in Yemen's province of Marib, local sources said on Friday.
The Yemeni forces backed by the popular resistance and the coalition have been continuing an offensive against the Houthi militants for days in the province.
The coalition suspected the fighters were Houthis and accidentally targeted them on Thursday as its fighter jets were conducting airstrikes against the militants, the sources said.
The government and coalition forces have made progress on key warfronts in recent days forcing the militants to retreat to their positions on the border with the province of Sanaa.
Hundreds of Houthis have been killed and injured in the fighting, medical sources in the capital Sanaa said.
Lately, the coalition, which has been bombing the Houthis since March, deployed thousands of its troops and large heavy equipment in support of the Yemeni forces during the battles to retake Marib, the adjacent province of Jawf and then the capital.
Today, Sudanese media reported Sudan is sending a second brigade to fight in Yemen upon request of president Abd Rabbuh Mansour Hadi.
Since the military intervention began, misdirected airstrikes killing pro-government forces and civilians including many children in several Yemeni cities.
In the past 24 hours, it resumed airstrikes in cities including Sanaa, Taiz, Ibb, Jawf and Baidha coinciding with ongoing confrontations between the government forces and the Houthis.
More civilians have been killed and injured in raids at a time when international organizations are accusing all the warring parties including the coalition of indiscriminate attacks that amount to war crimes.
Moreover, organizations are calling for an urgent and independent investigation into violations of the laws of war in the country.
