More Houthi reinforcements arrived in Yemen's province of Taiz on Thursday amid raging battles, local sources said.
The sources affirmed that Houthi fighters and military equipment including rocket launchers were deployed into midtown triggering fierce battles with the pro-government forces.
The government with support from the Saudi-led coalition launched an offensive to drive the Houthis and their allies including forces loyal to the former president more than a week ago.
On Thursday, the battles on southeast and western parts continued.
Sources within the popular resistance said the government forces advanced in southeast retaking key positions from the Houthis.
In this part, the Arab military coalition struck Houthi camps in the town of Dimnat Khadir located after the town of Al-Rahida killing and injuring many militants.
There were no figures of casualties.
On Wednesday, the UN criticized the siege around Taiz which has left around 250.000 people, mostly women and children, to face extremely harsh conditions. The siege was imposed by the Houthis as a war tactic.
The UN said it has deprived the local population of supplies including food, safe water and medicines while urging the parties responsible to lift it.
Battles between the government forces and the Houthis continued in other provinces including Ibb, Baidha, Hodeida and Sanaa.
